Audiobooks I Listened To In April 2023

These are the audiobooks that I listened to in April 2023.

I find listening to books, especially on fast mode of a pace of 2x mode or higher, helps me get cleaning, cooking, laundry, yardwork, and other mundane tasks done more quickly and enjoyably.

Listening to audiobooks on fast has also helped my ability to listen/hear and to process information more quickly.

In Jr. High and High school I was always a straight A student andI would score above average on everything except listening. For some reason I just couldn’t hear and remember details that test asked for.

I’ve been listening to books and podcasts daily on fast mode for over a year; I’ve noticed an increase in my ability to hear, process information, and remember details. So, this has been a really great pursuit of mine to strengthen a weakness I have.

Audiobooks I Listened To In April 2023

I’d recommend all of the books I read this month except one. Those I recommend I link to.

Boundaries with Kids: How Healthy Choices Grow Healthy Children by Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend

This is a great book and a re-read for me. As a mom of four, I need to constantly be reminded of ways to parent well.

This book is written by a Christian Doctor who refers to The Bible often—which is fine for me, but I wish to put a disclaimer out there.

Its principles and advice are so important for parenting. I know I’ll be re-reading it many more times as I raise my kids.

The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown

I really enjoyed this book. Not only is it a great piece of history and very informative about rowing, it also has places importance on having good values. I particularly liked learning about the boys’ humility, hardwork, teamwork, and perserverance.

I was also facsinated with the details about the Olympics held in Germany just prior to WWII. There were many things I did not know about the propaganda and Hitler’s regime that are mentioned in this book.

The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis

This is a short book that teaches about the four different types of love humans have for one another. I found it informative and interesting. I would recommend it as a short easy read if you like C.S. Lewis and/or philosophy.

The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

This is another re-read for me this month. The Screwtape Letters definietly make you think about this life, the next life, and why and how Satan tries to sway us to follow him.

It is incredibly insightful and deep but the content comes in a way that keeps the reader wanting more.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini— I disliked this book and didn’t finish it. I found the child rape scene, repeated references back to it, the unlikeable entitled main character, the child sociopath (the author names the child a sociopath), the hypocritical and/or completely out-of-touch father, and the different writing style not to my taste; I wish I could take back the attempt I made to read it. I would never recommend this book.

Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

These books are a re-read for me. While I love the movies—and feel like they did a very good job of book to movie converesion, the books are jam-packed full of fun moments, laughs, and details the movies didn’t include.

Harry Potter the Prequel (short 800 word short-story by J.K. Rowling of an adventure of James Potter and Sirius Black)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I LOVE this series and all of the books are a 5/5 for me. I was a bit sad when it ended (again).

I may look into listening to Harry Potter in German next. I need to spruce up my German skills and I want to read Harry Potter again. So, this may be a fun way to go about doing both. IF I do, I’ll include that in the post about audiobooks I read that month.

I hope this list gives you some ideas of good books to read.
